Historian’s Chronicle (1930 – 1931)

This account, written by then-Historian T.M.I. Wannamaker, chronicles events which transpired in the Society from 1930 to 1931. The chronicle, beginning in September of 1930 and concluding in April of 1931, is divided into three terms (each with a different set of elected leaders). Historian Wannamaker also provides details on some of the different kinds of content presented by the membership at Society meetings, including: a speech on “the life and activities of Virginia’s three greatest men (Jefferson, Poe, and Wilson)”; a talk by Professor Stringfellow Barr on “The Industrializing South”; and “Poe Night” with guest speaker Dr. Archibald Hill. There is also mention of a magazine titled “The Acute Angle” which the Society decided to publish. The chronicle includes mention of the death of Dr. Alderman; the Society opted to cancel its annual Moot Court performance out of deference to his passing.
