Newspaper Clippings on Anti-War Rally (1935)

This article, published on October 29th, 1935, provides details on an anti-war rally organized by the Society and attended by various student organizations of the University. The following statement was issued by the Society in regards to its actions:

“Whereas, it is the function of the Jefferson Society to provide a forum for the expression of student opinion; whereas, the Jefferson Society deplores war as futile and as a social evil that should be publicly condemned by every American citizen; and, whereas the Jefferson Society believes every University of Virginia man is opposed to war and its desolation– moral, cultural, economic, and social; and believes a non-partisan, anti-war rally to be desirable as a forceful expression of student opinion; be it therefore resolved that the Jefferson Society sponsor an Anti-War rally in Cabell Hall on November 8; and that the society extend invitations to student organizations to appoint one delegate each to an executive committee to determine the program and speakers for the rally.”
