One of the key components of the probationary semester is the Probationary Presentation, which may take the form of a speech, a debate, or a reading of an original piece of literature. Oratorical presentations are immediately followed by a period of questioning by the regular membership, and then finally the appointed Critic relays their impressions and recommends either passage or failure of the presentation. These presentations are traditionally evaluated on the basis of the probationary’s presentation style, the quality of the presentation’s content, and the probationary’s ability to competently navigate the question and answer period. At this point, all members in good standing are allowed to cast their own votes to either pass or fail the presentation.
